Independence Day Recap

Happy Independence Day!

This weekend, as I gathered with my family, friends and patriots across southern Nevada I thought about the strength and character of our Founding Fathers who came together in Philadelphia 234 years ago with our future as a nation in their hands. I reflected on the courage it took for these men to stand up to what seemed to be an insurmountable power and fight for what they believed in and knew to be right. Today, and every day, these men represent the challenges faced by our young Nation and the victory over seemingly insurmountable odds that all Americans should recognize and appreciate: Their sacrifice and bravery has yielded the land that we know as the United States of America. It’s critically important that those who represent our country acknowledge and respect the responsibility given to them to stand up, not only for the citizens of today but for future generations, and defend what we know as the land of the free and home of the brave.

As we wind down our Independence Day weekend with the last firework rocketing in the sky and BBQ closing it lid, I want to recap our campaign's activities with you. Citizens Outreach hosted another great First Friday event at Stoney’s. It was inspiring to speak to such an energized crowd and was a great way to start the Independence Day weekend. Special thanks to all of the volunteers who joined me and my family at the Boulder Day Damboree Days parade. Your support and dedication fuels this campaign and I cannot express enough how much your encouragement means to us. Damboree Days, as usual, did not disappoint. The streets were packed with attendees and the festival was a huge success! Thank you to the Disabled American Veterans for the polish sausage after a long walk in the parade!

Today, I enjoyed the company of the residents of Sun City Summerlin at their Independence Day BBQ. These residents have really embraced our campaign and it’s always fun to meet new friends at their great events. We closed Independence Day with the Catholic War Veterans 75th Anniversary celebration - thanks to the members of Post 1947 for an enjoyable evening!

As we celebrate the 234th birthday of our nation, remember our men and women in uniform, past and present, who fought for our independence and who continue to serve so that we may live by the words, "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
